MODx CMS Login and Text Edit Tutorial

This tutorial is for website owners who have had the MODx content management system installed to their website. It goes through the basics of logging in to the system, making a simple change to text and publishing the changes to the Internet.

• Open a browser window
• Go to the address www.yourwebsite.com/directory-provided-by-developer/
• A page will load with the MODx manager login box, enter the following:
  • Username: yourusername
  • Password: yourpassword
• Click Login to continue

The MODx CMS manager is now open

Note: This is where we set-up your website within MODx. This is the advanced part of the CMS and we currently don’t supply training for this section. Knowledge of this section is not required for you to use the Preview manager and edit your website. Leave this browser window open and we’ll continue…

Edit Webpage

• Click the Preview button that is visible in the MODx CMS manager menu

A new browser window opens with your website index page displayed.

• To the top left of your screen you will see a closed menu bar, Click on ‘content’
• The content menu is now open, select a region to edit, e.g. a typical region name would be ‘main content’.

A new browser window opens on top of the current page. You can see editing tools not unlike a Word processor or email tools. You should also be able to see some of the content from the page (maximize the browser window if you can’t see all the editing section).

• Now you will edit some text; select a portion of the text displayed in the editor
• The text you want to edit should now be highlighted; in your tool menu click ‘B’ to embolden the text
• To apply the changes so that it is published to your website for the world to see, click OK at the top left of the editor
• If the window does not close itself close it by clicking ‘close’ on the top right

The changes you made should now be visible on your home page (if not click ‘f5? to refresh the page).

Congratulations! You have updated your website.

Logout

• To logout of MODx CMS select the option ‘Go’ on the menu bar
• A drop down menu will appear, select logout
• You have logged out of the page.
• Go back to the MODx manager and click logout on the top right of the page

You have logged out of the manager.
